Navajo Indian Pendant 50% Off White Buffalo Turquoise Large Sterling Silver Augestine Largo. Augestine Largo, Navajo artist and silversmith, has hand made this gorgeous large pendant of White Buffalo Turquoise set in a heavy and distinctive sterling silver setting. Augestine has added 5 graduated sterling silver beads along the top and bottom of the pendant and sterling silver roping around the stone--truly highlighting a special piece of White Buffalo Turquoise. The pendant measures 2-1/4" long (including the 3/8" heavy bail and loop). The pendant itself is 1-7/8" long and is 7/8" wide.

The White Buffalo measures 1-1/2" long by 3/4" wide. The black matrix in the White Buffalo Turquoise is really special--making for a most impressive pendant.

It was discovered in the Dry Creek Mine north of Austin Nevada in 1993. Because of its hardness, it was sent to be assayed and it was in fact White Turquoise. The chemical name for Turquoise is Aluma Phosphate which in its pure chemical state is white. Turquoise takes on color via an intrusion of either copper (blue color) or iron (green color).

To date, no other vein of gem quality white turquoise has been discovered anywhere else in the world. Because White Turquoise is as rare as a white buffalo, the Indians call it "White Buffalo" Turquoise. The White Buffalo Turquoise is itself considered sacred and powerful. The jewelry-making is an honoring or tribute to the "White Buffalo" Turquoise.

This is an authentic Native American Indian handmade item. The metal is sterling silver and the stones (if any) are natural (unless described differently).

My only supplier (since 2004) has been a 4. Generation family business in Gallup, NM. They work directly with hundreds of Navajo and Zuni artists and sticker each item with the name of the artist, the artist's tribe, a general description, and their LIST price-what you would pay for the item in their shop in Gallup.
